Our Story

Hemstock’s Jewellers

1982
Our story starts in 1982 when Mr Hemstock and his wife opened their first shop on November 5th 1982. The original shop was at 10a Market Street, Wymondham, just a few doors down on the other side of the road, which is now Corals the Bookmakers.

1984
We became members of the National Association of Goldsmiths, this gave us access to professional training and development and a network to establish best practice within our business.

1985
After the success of the Wymondham shop the opportunity arose to acquire an existing and long-established jeweller in Diss – Spears Jewellers.
1987
In this year Mr Hemstock was one of the first Retail Jewellers in the UK to become an official Registered Valuer. The National Association of Jewellers Institute of Registered Valuers is a professionally recognised body giving valuations and valuers a higher profile and recognition, which celebrated its Pearl Anniversary (30 years) in 2017.

1990
On the 5th March 1990 we became a member of The Company of Master Jewellers.  This is the largest jewellery buying group in the UK. Being members allows us to deliver all our products and services at more competitive prices to our customers.
1992
By this year all our Teams are now trained and qualified to the National Association of Goldsmith, (now known as The National Association of Jewellers), Jewellery Education standards receiving certificates and diplomas for their achievements.
 1998
By now we had outgrown the little shop at 10a Market Street and moved to where we are today 37 Market Street. This gave us much more space for our customers, repair services and our jewellery and watches.

 2002
This year we celebrated our 20th anniversary with the business embracing the digital age and adopting an EPOS till system. The new system affected the business in two ways, it transformed the business with reports, on best sellers, financial planning and data capture, but also caused much mayhem, head scratching and confusion.
2005
In this year we had a re-brand. The colours changed from green and gold to red but the diamond remained.
2008
We were given the opportunity from the Bullen family to acquire Bullen’s Jewellers in Norwich and in 2008 we became proud custodians of this beautiful business.  Over the years we have increased the services offered and enhance the product offering.
2013
Over the years we have been lucky enough to win some prestigious awards. In 2014 we won the Retail Innovation of the Year Award for being the first store in the UK to have a roaming till system to enhance the customer experience, with this award we beat Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, M&S and Tesco in this category.  We also won The Inspiring Independent Award in 2017.

2017
We celebrated our 35th Anniversary at the Assembly House in Norwich, where we collaborated with Bullen’s who were celebrating their 130th anniversary. Customers were invited to join us for fizz, canapes, competitions and of course our gorgeous jewellery and watches.
